Empty street and the song
I walked a couple miles,
Down an empty street,
Dark, only streetlights light the path,
Sluggish feet dragging and all,
The music crawling from the earbuds,
Into my ears, it’s a drug,
I whisper the lyrics,
They echo from the abandoned buildings,
I scream into the darkness,
And it comes back to me,
Wind carrying my voice back home,
To my vocal cords, and I swallow it back,
The empty glass bottles rattle,
To and fro, they hit the curb,
The song’s beat flows smooth,
A happy beat, with sad lyrics,
A true contradiction and it makes me smile,
The heat, sweat moistens my forehead,
I lay down on the road, the cold asphalt,
I watch the traffic lights change colors,
Except no cars show up,
And time seems to have stopped,
Nothing was more peaceful.
